Hardcover. Condition: new. Mugnaini, Joseph (illustrator). Hardcover. " A fast-moving, eerie.tale set on Halloween night. Eight costumed boys running to meet their friend Pipkin at the haunted house outside town encounter instead the huge and cadaverous Mr. Moundshroud. As Pipkin scrambles to join them, he is swept away by a dark Something, and Moundshroud leads the boys on the tail of a kite through time and space to search the past for their friend and the meaning of Halloween. After witnessing a funeral procession in ancient Egypt, cavemen discovering fire, Druid rites, the persecution of witches in the Dark Ages, and the gargoyles of Notre Dame, they catch up with the elusive Pipkin in the catacombs of Mexico, where each boy gives one year from the end of his life to save Pipkin's. Enhanced by appropriately haunting black-and-white drawings." --Booklist "If you want to know what Halloween is, or if you simply want an eerie adventure, take this mystery-history trip. You couldn't have a better guide than Ray Bradbury."--"Boston Globe." B&W illustrations throughout. Cloth & Boards. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine in Archival Plastic Cover. Joseph Mugnaini (illustrator). Later edition. A very nice edition (later) of one of the late Ray Bradbury's most popular books, signed and dated "Nov 9,1989" by him on the front free endpaper in black felt pen. Nicely bound in black cloth and orange boards with silver titling, in fine condition. The dustjacket is complete with the original price ($12.95) and is in fine condition, protected by an archival dustjacket but for minor rubbing and small tears at the edges, minor. A Note: some dealers have this book listed as a first edition published in 1972 because Knopf has 1972 on the copyright page. However, the true first edition of "The Halloween Tree" has a cover that shows a windy tree on a cream background and the price on the front flap is $3.95, not $12.95. And it has no ISBN because of its age. See our item #3606 (if available). We think 1989 is the publication date of this edition (the copyright page says 1972). The signature/date, and the copyright notations on the dustjacket indicate it has to be 1989 -- after 1988 (see Jacket illustration copyright 1988 on back flap) but before Nov 9, 1989 when it was signed (assuming Ray Bradbury got the correct date!).
