Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The Ascent of Rum Doodle By W.E. Bowman Publisher: Max Parrish | FIRST EDITION | 1956 | RARE edition | Used | Hardcover | Good condition | dustjacket slightly worn with tear on back. The Ascent of Rum Doodle quickly became established as a mountaineering classic. This wonderful, affectionate mountaineering satire, an outrageously funny spoof about the ascent of a 40,000-and-a-half-foot peak, in which Totter leads an expedition to conquer the eponymous mountain, in spite of the best efforts of Pong, the expedition cook. The book's central and unforgettable character, Binder, is one of the finest creations in comic literature. Many thought it inspired by the 1953 conquest of Everest. But Bowman had drawn on the flavour and tone of earlier adventures, of Bill Tilman and his 1937 account of the Nandi Devi expedition.
