Book First Edition
Original Cloth. Condition: Good. Neild, Julia (illustrator). First Edition. Second printing from 1946 of the Oxford edition of the trilogy which was first published in 1945. This was the first combined edition - the three volumes having been published separately in 1939, 1941 and 1943. It has illustrations by Julie Neild and an introduction by H.J. Massingham. The boards are bumped at the corners, there is a some marking to the front and rear panels and the spine is faded. Browning to the page edges. The name of the original owner is written in pencil to the front free endpaper - this was one of the children of Sir John Cockcroft, the Nobel prize winner and first Master of Churchill College in Cambridge. There is warping to the final 100 or so pages so the book has been damp at some time - no staining however oddly enough. There are also one inch creases to the bottom corners of pages 161 to 174. The pages are generally otherwise unmarked. No jacket.
