Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 10-inch, 33-1/3 rpm long-playing vinyl record, Columbia CL 6217. Very-good-plus vinyl in a near-mint original cardboard sleeve, though cardboard is split about halfway back to both top and bottom. Liberace offers "Star Dust," "Liebestraum," "The Carioca" (from "Flying Down to Rio"), "Moonlight Sonata," "Malaguena" (from Ernesto Lecuona's Andalusia Suite. No, it's not the love theme from "Mark of Zorro," though Antonio Banderas did encounter it in Robert Rodriguez's "Once Upon a Time in Mexico"); H. Hupfield's immortal "As Time Goes By," and two more. Popular piano music. Catalogs $80; here reduced from $27.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm, "High Fidelity" (mono, monaural) vinyl record, "six eye" red-and-black label, Columbia CL 896, near mint vinyl in a very-good-plus jacket, split five inches to the top and with remnants of sticker top right rear. Includes "My Melancholy Baby"; "She's Funny That Way"; "The Way You Look Tonight"; "Someone to Watch Over Me," etc. Why the distributors are at pains to imply this album was recorded in Mr. Liberace's home, rather than in the studio (a bit unlikely, but we suppose it's possible) remains unknown. Child prodigy Wladziu "Lee" Liberace (1919-1987) converted himself from an intermission act to a headliner and TV star with increasingly outrageous costumes, mirror-bedecked pianos, a dramatic and sentimental performing style reviled by the critics, and a relentless publicity machine. By 1955 he was making $50,000 per week at the Riviera in Las Vegas and had more than 200 official fan clubs with a quarter of a million members, making over $1 million per year from public appearances and millions from television. He became a pop-culture superstar. He also became the butt of jokes by comedians, as he long denied his homosexuality, frequently responding that such jibes made him "so sad that I cried all the way to the bank." Catalogs $50, here reduced from $30.
