Photograph
Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 223 pages. Illustrated. Many of the pages have one or more black and white photos of individuals, battle scenes or historical significance of various kinds that were taken during Lincoln's lifetime. Typically the photographs have a paragraph sized text explaining or commenting on the accompanying photos. Here are two examples. On page 67 is a photo and commentary as follows: "James Matheny, the clerk of court in Springfield, was a dear friend of Lincoln's and served as best man at his wedding. He would later say that, in his opinion, Lincoln was an atheist. Matheny also claimed that Lincoln was writing a book on atheism. On the afternoon of Lincoln's wedding, Matheny asked him where he was going. 'To hell, I suppose,' Lincoln responded sadly." On the page preceding the "Contents" page at the beginning of the book is this quote from Lincoln in a speech to Congress in 1848: "Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right--a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can, may revolutionize, and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit." Size: 8.75 x 11.25. Abe Lincoln: Photo Biography.
