This is the descriptive catalog for the May 1965 auction of books, manuscripts, letters, journals and rare association Items held by Parke - Bernet Galleries, featuring the Journals of Ernest Thompson Seton; Political Letters of President John F. Kennedy; as well as superb collections of Thomas Hardy, Ernest Hemingway and Katherine Mansfield, as well as numerous other highly desirable literary items. ************************************ The Seton material (which included Seton's lifetime Journals - 1879 - 1946 - Firsts, manuscripts, letters, book sets from his collection, watercolors and wash drawings, and one original oil painting) belonged to Mrs. Ernest Thompson Seton. The Faulkner Collection (Firsts and association items) was that of Mark E. Fretwell. The Hardy Collection (Firsts, Correspondence, Presentation copy, manuscripts, etc.) had belonged to Joseph S. Sample. The Hemingway material includes letters, firsts and association items. The Kennedy material includes his correspondence with a political associate, as well as inscribed copies of "Profiles in Courage". There was presented a Katherine Mansfield Archive which includes her Notebooks, autographs, letters, books and magazines, etc. ************************************ There are a considerable number of other items from important and collected authors and individuals, including several groupings of American Authors, British Authors, British Poets, Kipling, Erskine Caldwell, John Dos Passos, F. Unused bidding sheet laid-in (approx. 5 7/8" X 9", printed red on light yellow, on one side only). / CONDITION - GOOD PLUS - This is a previously owned book that remains clean and serviceable, with the following particulars noted :: EXTERIOR -- Vague smudging and a touch of shallow creasing to front; toning to rear cover - else clean. / BINDING -- The cover has separated from the top staple (a judicious use of appropriate glue should fix this problem - but, hence the condition grade) - the bottom staple is firmly attached. / INTERIOR -- Clean and Unmarked. / BIDDING SHEET : There is a small smudge on the back, else clean and unmarked.
