First Edition
First edition. Mamet's adaptation from a literal translation by Vlada Chernomordik. Slender paperback illustrated on front cover with photograph of a young Christopher Walken from the first staging of the play at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, April 16, 1988. Front blank shows some wrinkling and a hint of staining otherwise near fine. There can't have been many copies in this, the first printing -- it is otherwise unaccountably scarce.

Soft cover. Condition: Very good plus. 1st Edition. 58 leaves printed recto, cerlox-bound in printed card covers; 280 x 222 x 6 mm. Designated "Pre-rehearsal draft: August, 1991", a new translation of Chekhov's last play (1903) by Canadian playwright John Murrell, dated 28.07.91. His third translation from Chekhov, the play was staged fall 1991 at Tarragon. The present draft constitutes the second of three issued during production (preceded by the first draft & followed by a rehearsal script in September). Although this copy bears no notice of it, the play was reputedly adapted by David Mamet (according to the Tarragon fonds). This copy bears a stickit note inside the cover with pencil name & address of Martin Hunter, late Director of Hart House Theatre at the University of Toronto (with a few of his pencil shoulder notes). There appear to be no copies outside the archives of the author & Tarragon Theatre. A nice copy.
