This book is unashamedly children’s horror in the age-old tradition of scaring children into good behavior. Many modern psychiatrists I’m sure would say this is wrong. However, I always say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” and parents have always used scare tactics when dealing with their kids. Besides, I think it’s sort of hypocritical for society as a whole to blast the old Grimm brothers’ fairy tales as being too graphic and too frightening for kids, and then condone – even fully support – the anti-drug and tobacco ads we see on TV every day. You’ve got ads in which human bodies are thrown around. If that’s not horror, I don’t know what is. Plain and simple, there are more things that damage children and society than drugs and cigarettes. I chose the stories in this collection not only because they were well written, and highly entertaining, but because they encompassed a full spectrum of “dos” and “don’ts” that every 21st century child needs to learn. It covers everything from firearm safety and petty thievery to dental hygiene and animal cruelty.
