CSEE enlisted five of North America's top child development researchers and character education trainers to address the five practices that maximize the chances of raising good kids. "Good kids" are those who are empathic and altruistic, who have keen moral reasoning skills and strong consciences. This 92-page booklet, penned for a parent audience, is also relevant to teachers and school administrators. Chapters include: "Authoritative Parenting for Character and Competence", "The Power of Modeling in Children's Character Development", "Discipline Strategies that Support Character Growth", "Democratic Family Practices", and "The Domains of Social Reasoning: How We Think about Right and Wrong and Why It Matters to Parents".Contributors include Marilyn Watson, Program Director for the Child Development Project, Larry Nucci, Director of the Center for Studies of Moral Development and Education, and Thomas Lickona, Director of the Center for the 4th and 5th Rs (Respect and Responsibility).
