From the Author:
A Collectors Pocket Price Guide......
Is just what this book is supposed to be. Aimed at the new/beginning/novice collector, I have endeavoured to make the history of the Wade Potteries understandable without being confusing. This was not an easy task with two branches of the family involved in independant but joint potteries, namely teapots and tiles on one side, with porcelain, ornamental figurines and gift wares on the other (Until, of course, they merged). Understanding something of the political and economic upheavels during the life of the potteries helps to appreciate certain changes in direction and lines of ware, as does understanding social and domestic fads and trends. The seemingly 'chance' suggestion that lead to the making of little press moulded porcelain animals, in the process making Wade a house hold name in the UK and Canada, is typical of the history of the ceramics industry. I hope that the reader will develop a good overall knowledge of the Wade Potteries, their importance to and place in the history of the ceramics industry. I further hope that the reader might decide to collect and enjoy developing a collection of Wade, so that in future they can continue to add to future research on the pottery. After all, it is invariably the collectors who can devote endless hours to collecting and therefore developing a knowledge of their pieces, that can add to everyone's knowledge. I hope you enjoy it.
