Sub-titled "The Search For El Dorado 1800 - 1920", the author notes that his book is about European settlement in NZ in the 19th Century, but that it deals with people and events not featured prominantly in other histories. These are covered in five sections --- The Coastal Frontier, The Gold Rushes, Magic Towns on the Frontier, The Bush Frontier and The Closing Frontier. In addition to the author's excellent research and story-telling, a feature of the book is the amazing selection of "frontier" illustrations he has collected. The illustrations certainly present a telling picture of the "pioneering" life. First edition of 1992, 159 pages including bibliography/source notes and index.
