Claire Henderson Davis is a theologian, dance artist and writer. In her first book, "After the Church", she weaves her own story of coming to terms with her Christian identity (she is the daughter of Roman Catholic priest and theologian Charles Davis), through a re-telling of the Christian narrative in a contemporary idiom. This striking and original book recognizes that though the institutional church may be collapsing, the Christian story has a richness and depth that we would be foolish to ignore in our search for wholeness and integrity. In six chapters - Storytelling, Beginning and Ending, Incarnation, The Trinity, The Body of Christ, and, With My Body I Thee Worship, she reworks traditional spiritual themes in a radically contemporary way, offering a pattern for faith and belief that will resonate with all spiritual seekers today.

Review:
'How refreshing! A book that sees the dynamics of sex as a positive analogy for how human beings in all their diversity can love each other in a world where all people are loved equally by God. Christians through the centuries who have seen sex as a threat to spiritual growth will be turning in their graves. Long may that continue!' (SOFIA 2007-11-01)
Synopsis:
Claire Henderson Davis is the daughter of a Roman Catholic priest and theologian who resigned his priesthood in order to marry. Long before he experienced intimacy and love himself, he wrote a scholarly work on Jesus' relationships with women. "After the Church" explores an essential contradiction illustrated in her family's own story - the Christian story is as irresistible and compelling as falling in love, yet for many the Church is cerebral and passionless. This original and exciting book asks how a generation of people who are disillusioned with the Church can engage meaningfully and deeply with the Christian narrative in an age that is obsessed with sex. She offers a credible way to religious belief in six chapters - Storytelling, Beginning and Ending, Incarnation, The Trinity, The Body of Christ, and, With My Body I Thee Worship. Reworking these traditional spiritual themes in a radically contemporary way, she offers a pattern for faith and belief that will resonate with all spiritual seekers today. This is also essential reading for all who are concerned to get the Christian message across.
