Synopsis:
Chapman Pincher is best known as an investigative journalist and writer about spies and intelligence affairs, but his first and abiding love has been for the British countryside. While his professional interests appear to be centred on Whitehall and Westminster, he has always been a self-styled "bumpkin", devoted to country life. This book is the story of how he managed to combine his high-performance career with his youthful ambition of living as closely as possible, with limited means, the life of a country gentleman. It was mainly through his country life that he met the high-level contacts who supplied him with the secret information which so exasperated his Fleet Street and literary rivals.
