The magical quality of glittering, sparkling greetings cards is bought to life by Polly Pinder in another of her highly successful books in this popular series. Her imaginative designs are both achievable and inspirational, and will appeal to beginners as well as experienced card makers. This book shows how to create enchanting, glittery greetings cards using the wealth of glitter products that are now available. Holographic and fluorescent papers, glinting sequins and jewels, glitter glues, tinsel-like thread and sparkly pipe cleaners, as well as recycled materials such as discarded Christmas cards, gift wrap and sweet wrappings, can all be used to enhance handmade cards and give them a magical sparkle. The basic techniques used are very simple and are covered fully in the book, and the projects explain clearly, with full-colour photographs of every step, how to make six gorgeous cards, ranging from a shimmering red heart made from woven holographic paper strips, to a beautiful glittery balloon. No specialist equipment is needed.

Review:
Jan 06 If you can't use glitter at Christmas, when can you use it? The answer is: whenever you please. If you thought that the sparkly stuff was just for the festive season, then think again. Not only glitter but holographic card and peeloffs, sparkly papers and confetti, glitter glue and tinsel are put through their paces. I do like to see a book where the initial outlay is modest and the items easy to obtain, and this is definitively one of those. If you are not an existing crafter you might have to invest in a few punches and a rubber stamp or two, but I used my hob before I got my heatgun (they came quite late to the UK compared with the embossing powders) so don't worry if you don't have one. Indeed, substituting all kinds of inexpensive items can complete many of the projects, and it is the methods that get the creative juices flowing. Learn how to correctly use glitter glues and apply glitter without getting it everywhere (although that is part of the fun), weave with foil crepe paper, be creative with sparkly pipecleaners, use watercolors with stamped images, and more. Make cards for Valentines Day, birthdays, invitations, and more. The Christmas tree cards are very unisex, but if you want men's cards for other occasions, you will have to make up your own; fairies, flowers, hearts, and balloons predominate here. I confess that apart from a little sparkly glitter glue on fairy wings, or to convey the sun shining on water, I put my glitter away when I am not making Christmas cards. It was an education looking in this book to see what else can be done with it - a very useful addition to the card crafter's library. * Myshelf.com * Oct 05 (Reviewed together with Making Christmas Cards by Judy Balchin) I could not wait to make the cards in these two books. The ideas are brilliant and use easily obtainable materials that are not expensive...The instructions are easy to follow and the results very pleasing...Recommended for anyone who likes craft and wants to send out more personal cards. (Susan, aged 12). * Education Otherwise * Sept 06 This covers the magical theme of glitter - a crafting staple that's just perfect for Christmas cards and birthday cards for little princesses. In fact, rather more grown up princesses love a bit of glitter too! Discover dazzling new techniques and pick up bags of inspiration with these brilliant and simple to follow step-by-step guides, which you take you effortlessly from the simplest effect to the most incredible professional result in no time. * Papercraft Inspirations * Jul 05 [This book] is full of imaginative designs that are both achievable and inspirational and will appeal to beginners as well as experienced card makers. Polly's ideas use a wealth of glitter products from holographic paper and equines to glitter glue and sparkly thread. * Making Cards *
