This is a readable and accessible account of the history of steamers on the Tay illustrated with pictures showing all the key vessels as well as other aspects of the subject such as passenger certificates and illustrations from guidebooks. The various Tay passenger ferries feature prominently as does the history of the Tay train ferry - the second in the world after that across the Forth - while excursion traffic is also well covered. The excursion vessels are seen at destinations including Dundee Newburgh Broughty Ferry Bridge of Earn and Balmerino. The last ferries to operate between Dundee and Newport prior to the opening of the Tay Road Bridge are featured prominently and the excursion story is brought bang up to date with pictures of those vessels that have made an appearance on the Tay in more recent years. The final three pages of the book cover Loch Tay.
