CAPTURING A BIT OF THE SPIRIT OF THE BLUES
There have been many excellent books on the history of the blues, but what I tried to do here is a little different. Having been a blues musician for the past twenty-something years, I wanted to try to capture the spirit of the music I play and love. Instead of coming up with just a book of quotes, I chose anecdotes, words from performers and lines from songs. Add to that the drawings of R. Crumb and the result, I hope, is a tribute to the wit and wisdom of the blues. Most importantly, I wanted to show the universal nature of the blues, the power it has to speak to the heart in good times as well as bad. It's a book for people who love blues music and a book for people who have had the feelings that the songs and stories inspired. I think I got it right....and I welcome your comments and suggestions.
About the Author:

A native Texan and full-time musician, Brian Robertson plays the blues in Austin. He has worked as a radio talk show host, a museum director, a busboy, and a phone crisis hotline counselor. He has contributed articles to a number of magazines, including Men's Health and Austin Blues Monthly. His most recent CD release is Juke Joint Blues.
