Sam Martin is a full time writer and father of two sons, living and working in Austin, Texas with his wife Denise. His writing has appeared in over a dozen publications including Dwell, Home and Natural Home, and he is the author of two previously published books: How to Mow the Lawn: The Lost Art of Being a Man, Dutton & Bloomsbury, 2003, and How to Keep House: The Lost Art of Being a Man, Bloomsbury, 2004. Sam is a former Senior Editor at This Old House and Mother Earth News magazines. Presently he writes about architecture, building and travel and is a contributing editor at Budget Living Magazine. In Spring of 2005, Sam's third book was published by Andrews McMeel. How to Achieve Total Enlightenment: A Practical Guide to the Meaning of Life, a humorous but hands-on approach to finding spiritual fulfillment through everything from long distance running to building a Japanese teahouse. Also in 2005 a fourth book--Green Masters: Pliny Fisk III --is due out by EcoTone Press. This biography will cover the life and influence of one of the green building movement's preeminent architects, planners and thinkers. Sam's travels have taken him to more than 30 countries around the world, including Canada where he worked for 8 months planting nearly 80,000 trees in Ontario and British Columbia.
