The book captures the joy of waiting for a sister to be born
This has been a very exciting year for me, a perfect way to enter the new century, I think! I have just had my first two books for children published: DADDY, WILL YOU MISS ME? in March of 1999, and now in September, THE NIGHT YOU WERE BORN. THE NIGHT YOU WERE BORN grew out of the experiences I had the night before my twin sister's first child was born. Hunkered down in a small motel in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada as a wet cloud of fog crawled in to surround us, I got word that my sister and her husband had started their birthing journey. When my sister had her second child, I felt I wanted to write about how eagerly we wait for children to be born, how much we treasure the time when it happens, and how much we like to tell and re-tell the stories of these nights of waiting and joy. I am particularly pleased at how beautifully Sophy Williams's artwork captures this joy. Her lovely drawings seem to skip and jump and bounce along with such warm high-spirits, reflecting perfectly the all the emotions of the book. I hope you like reading the book as much as I liked writing it.

McCormick earned a master's degree in creative writing at Antioch University in London.
