Susan Pickford became an Ursuline Sister at 17 and at twenty-six she left the convent and returned home. She taught for the next forty years and accumulated three degrees including a Certificate of Advanced Study from Harvard. After retiring from the Lowell Public School system, She moved to Portland and for the next ten years continued as an Adjunct Professor at the University of New England.
