The loan to The National Gallery by the collector Mr Heinz Berggruen of 69 works by six artists - Cezanne, Seurat, Braque, Miro, Van Gogh and Picasso - is celebrated by an exhibition and an accompanying catalogue. The Berggruen Collection is noted for its major works by key figures of the modern movement, including 41 works by Picasso representing most of the important phases in his career. It complements The National Gallery's collection of Post-impressionist paintings. The works - which include oils, watercolours, drawings and sculptures - are discussed by art historian Richard Kendall, and each is illustrated by a full-page colour plate. A profile of Heinz Berggruen and his role as an art collector is provided by the art dealer Camilla Cazalet. Lizzie Barker of the Gallery Staff examines the relationship between the loan pictures and The National Gallery Collection.
