Synopsis:
This biography of Kahlil Gibran - author of "The Prophet" and the voice of his Middle-Eastern countrymen - traces the phenomenon of a first-generation immigrant in 20th-century American arts and letters. Drawing upon letters and documents, the authors describe Gibran's boyhood in Lebanon, his family's impoverished years in turn-of-the-century Boston, and his eventual friendship with that city's intellectual elite.
About the Author:
The two authors are unusually qualified to present this story. The younger Kahlil Gibran, a noted sculptor, is the poet's cousin and namesake. Over a thirty-year period, he was entrusted with a formidable body of work left by the poet. Jean Gibran, a school teacher, has worked closely with her husband in researching this biography.
