This informative and unusually practical text brings together original and significant contributions from leading experts from a wide variety of fields. Of major importance to clinicians are the two practical manuals that comprise the final section of this volume. The Eating Disorder Examination (EDE), the major clinical interview for assessing eating disorders, is published here for the first time. It shows precisely how to elicit the key features of these disorders. The final chapter is a cognitive behavioral therapy manual written by three leading experts of this highly effective approach who draw on their own clinical experience in treating patients. This detailed manual covers all those who binge eat, including those who are overweight.

Review:
"This book is as original as it is important. It breaks new ground and is absolutely must reading' for professionals working with eating disorders or obesity. This book will lead the field into a new generation of both treatment and research." --Kelly D. Brownell, PhD, Yale University "A mandatory resource for anyone studying or treating binge eating....One wishes that books of this type were available for all disorders." --John P. Foreyt, PhD, Baylor College of Medicine "It is strongly recommended reading for any clinician who plans to treat binge eating individuals or to address problems of appetite in a clinical setting." -"-The Journal of Nervous & Mental Disease" "It is not often that a book for clinicians and researchers offers a comprehensive examination of a single symptom which shares several diagnoses. By focusing on binge eating from the perspective of the symptom from differing diagnoses, and by examining it as a phenomenon in and of itself, the contributors to this edited work provide an enriching and instructive resource." --"Eating Disorders" .,."a wonderful resource for all clinicians and researchers in the field of eating disorders." --"Journal of Adolescence" "This reviewer anticipated a text academic and at times tedious in its reading. However, the editors and contributors have put together a volume of infinite value to the practicing clinician. From the introductory through the final section, presenting two approaches for assessment and management, it is a wealth of pertinent and timely clinical information. Logical in presentation and style, each section thoroughly addresses binge eating in its many forms and factors affecting its presentation." --"The Journal of Nervous & Mental Disease" "This text will be a valuable reference for students taking courses on eating disorders and psychopathology, and for clinicians and researchers interested in eating problems." --BIOSIS "This is a state-of-the-art volume on binge eating...For clinicians working with clients suffering from eating disorders or addictions who have been bingeing, this book provides a wealth of useful, current information. It will prove helpful bothin case-conceptualization and in improving care." --"The Addiction Letter" "The authors have succeeded in assembling a collection of integrated and highly focused chapters from a wide range of perspectives. Chapter authors cross reference one another extensively, creating the impression of a true synthesis of ideas (no small accomplishment for a multiauthored text)....Most timely given the current movement to recognize binge eating disorder as distinct from other eating disorders." --"Doody's Annual Health Sciences Book Review" "The book supplies just about everything a clinician or researcher could want in one volume on the topic, provided by the foremost experts in their fields; as such, it is a must for our bookshelves." --"Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention" "The most comprehensive book available on binge eating and its treatment. Edited by two well-known experts in the field, this 16-chapter book is well organized and presented. Most importantly, it includes the Eating Disorder Examination, the standard interview for assessing eating disorders." --"Social & Behavioral Sciences" "An important contribution marking the scientific coming of age of binge eating....A most valuable resource for the many professionals interested in this subject." --"Behaviour Research and Therapy" "This book should be widely read, and available to everybody working with people who binge eat.
