Dance on a Sealskin let me re-live a moment in my history.
Writing Dance on a Sealskin brought me back to the moment of my own first dance in the Yu'pik village of Emmonak on the coast of the Bering Sea. I was able to relive again the bubbling fear and fun of a perfomance in front of neighbors and friends in the Kashim.In writing this story I tried to be true to my memories and to the magnificent culture which welcomed us.
