As Kestral Hunts-Alone – apprentice shaman in the spirit world – and Jennifer Talldeer – young, female private investigator – she must use all her skills, both magical and professional, to solve a mysterious and potentially terrifying situation.

Fragments of human bone and Native Indian artifacts are discovered on the site of a new shopping mall, where there have been a number of strange and violent occurences.
