Q. How did you come to write a cookbook?
Q. How did you come to write a cookbook?
Kevin: Many of my friends have asked me that, They knew I thought of cookbooks as often as I thought of picking up my dirty clothes. But I ran out of money and couldn't afford to eat out all the time, so I was forced into the kitchen.
Nancy: One night Kevin called and asked what easy dishes he could cook. I was stunned at his sudden interest in preparing his own food, but I recovered enough to tell him how to roast a chicken.
Q. What was your worst cooking disaster?
Kevin: Leaving the plastic bag in that chicken.
Q. Why bother cooking?
Kevin: Because most restaurants are closed by midnight. And you get tired of eating cereal for every meal, no matter how much sugar you put on it.
Q. What makes your cookbook different?
Kevin: My mom and I agreed there might be others like me who were forced into the kitchen by circumstances beyond their control, and these people needed a cookbook on their level. We decided she would teach the world to cook, and I'd be right there making jokes and making sure she didn't get too fancy.
Q. Do you miss eating out?
Kevin: Yes. Once you learn to cook, though, you'll wonder why they charge so much at restaurants. I guess you're paying for atmosphere. But the atmosphere in my apartment isn't so bad, if I open a window.
