The second part of the study offers the author's own, contextual approach. He takes into account the historical and social context in which the play was written, the context of the play in performance and the context in which contemporary audiences see and read "Othello".

About the Author:
PETER DAVISON is Secretary to the Trustees of Albany and Visiting Professor in Performance Arts at Westfield College, University of London. Formerly a Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute, his many books include Contemporary Drama and the Popular Dramatic Tradition in England and Popular Appeal in English Drama to 1850 (both by Macmillan), editions of Merchant of Venice, Richard II and 1 and 2 Henry IV, and studies of Hamlet and Henry V.
