The I-Series Applications textbooks strongly emphasize that students learn and master applications skills by being actively engaged- by doing. These texts have been written with clear, error-free, and unambiguous steps to accomplish tasks that lead to a finished document, worksheet or database table. The authors made the decision that teaching “how” to accomplish some task is not enough for complete understanding and mastery. Prior to introducing steps, the authors discuss why the steps students are about to experience are important and what role the steps play in the overall plan for creating a document, workbook or database.

Making the Grade: This element comprises 2-5 questions for each major section in a chapter and offers students an opportunity to test their knowledge as it reinforces learning.
End of Chapter Material: The end of chapter material will contain the following summary and three levels:

o Summary: Will be the final paragraph of each chapter leading to the end of chapter materials that will provide students an overview of what they have learned (not included in New Perspectives).

o Level 1-Review of Terminology: Key terms will appear in either a crossword puzzle or scrambler to reinforce learning.

o Level 2-Review of Concepts: These will include fill in the blanks and other question formats that will reinforce the WHY to students.

o Level 3-Hands On Projects: This is our most important feature in the end of chapter materials and will consist of five practical project categories: Practice, Challenge, e-Business, On the Web and Around the World. These exercises may include URL's to direct students to the web for more information. A running case ends the chapter, providing a continuous example for students as they build their knowledge.
